From Thirsty Lawn to Water-Wise Showpiece
The homeowners in Salt Lake City's Emigration Canyon neighborhood wanted to reduce their water bill and maintenance burden without sacrificing curb appeal. Black Diamond replaced the traditional sod lawn with premium artificial turf, surrounded by a naturalistic river rock landscape with large sandstone boulders, drought-tolerant plantings, and a flagstone stepping-stone path.

Design detail
Flagstone Path and River Rock Design
A hand-set flagstone path winds through the river rock landscape, connecting the driveway to the front entry. Large Utah sandstone boulders anchor the design and add natural character. The river rock groundcover eliminates the need for mulch replacement while providing excellent drainage.

The planting, rock and mulch surfaces were designed around Slow the Flow documentation requirements. Rock, mulch and low-water plantings are the qualifying replacements — artificial turf is not treated as a qualifying lawn-replacement surface by Utah Water Savers / JVWCD. Confirm current eligibility before bidding a rebate amount.
