This West Valley City property needed more than a cosmetic refresh. The existing front approach was steep, uninviting and inaccessible. The backyard offered no defined outdoor living space. Black Diamond redesigned both areas from the ground up — creating a graceful accessible entry, a low-water landscape framework, and a pergola-anchored backyard gathering area that works day and night.

The front entry centres on a curving accessible concrete ramp with low retaining-wall edges, decorative stone, lawn and layered drought-tolerant planting. The design eliminates the original grade challenge while creating a welcoming, low-maintenance arrival sequence. A small water feature adds a focal point and ambient sound at the entry.

In the backyard, a pergola anchors a flexible outdoor gathering space surrounded by broad decorative-stone areas, connected circulation paths and layered planting. The layout is intentionally low-maintenance — stone and drought-tolerant material replace high-water turf across most of the yard.

FX Luminaire low-voltage landscape lighting extends the usability of both spaces after dark. Mature trees are uplighted to frame the property, step lighting gives the accessible ramp definition and safety at night, and the outdoor gathering area is lit for comfortable evening use.

The project received a 2022 West Valley City Beautiful Yard recognition — visible in the project photography — reflecting the quality of the finished landscape within the community.
