This Federal Heights property sits on a sloped Salt Lake City lot where the existing landscape had aged beyond repair. Crumbling access, poor drainage and an absence of outdoor living space left the homeowners with a yard they couldn't use.

Black Diamond designed and built a complete solution: custom concrete stairs and curving walkways to manage the grade, natural boulders to anchor the planting beds, a concrete patio with boulder edge detail, BioGrass drought-tolerant sod and a full FX Luminaire low-voltage lighting system that extends every space into the evening.

Curving concrete walkways and lawn

A curving concrete walkway connects the front entry to the street and side yard, following the natural contour of the lot rather than forcing a straight line against the grade.

BioGrass drought-tolerant sod fills the lawn areas on either side, providing a lush, low-water alternative to traditional Kentucky bluegrass that holds up through Utah's dry summers.

Landscape Lighting

Full FX Luminaire low-voltage lighting system

A complete FX Luminaire low-voltage lighting system was designed and installed across the entire property. Path lights illuminate the walkways and stair approaches, uplights accent the boulders and specimen trees, and step lights integrate directly into the concrete risers.

The result is a property that reads as well at 9 pm as it does at noon — the lighting reveals the texture of the boulders, the geometry of the stairs and the layering of the planting in a way that daylight alone cannot.
