Black Diamond transformed this Sandy, Utah property from an aging deck-and-lawn layout into a fully realized outdoor environment. The completed project combines custom concrete work, a custom pavilion with integrated landscape lighting, a Belgard retaining wall system, Belgard paver patio, a curved Belgard freestanding wall, a custom pergola, a masonry fire feature, and under-cap sheet waterfalls. Every element — circulation, gathering areas, shade structures, drainage, and specialty features — was coordinated as one complete design-build plan.
Before the Transformation
An Aging Backyard with Disconnected Features
The original backyard included an aging wood deck, an existing spa area, lawn and a vine-covered structure that did not provide a cohesive circulation or entertainment plan. The renovation began with demolition, excavation, utility coordination and preparation for the new hardscape and structure footprint.

The build required coordinated removal, excavation, drainage preparation, utility routing, custom concrete forming, and base construction before the paver patio, retaining walls, pavilion, and specialty features could be installed. Construction sequencing protected the home and existing trees while establishing the new outdoor-living layout.

The custom pavilion provides a covered outdoor room with integrated landscape lighting, creating a year-round destination for dining and entertaining. The custom pergola adds a secondary shade zone, while the custom masonry fire feature establishes a separate gathering area within the paver patio — each element creating distinct uses within one connected outdoor plan.

FX Luminaire low-voltage landscape lighting was installed throughout the property — illuminating the pavilion, retaining walls, planting beds, and patio areas.
